Paper Riot Home About Reviews Policies Contact Top Ten(+) Books I’ve Added to My TBR List Because of Tumblr Edits November 8, 2016 ● BY Ellis ● TAGS: Top Ten Tuesday ● 3 comments Top Ten Tuesday is hosted by The Broke and the Bookish What a great way to get back into the swing of blogging things. I know the original prompt was to list books I’ve added to my TBR lately, but I’ve wanted to make a post about the incredible Tumblr edits that have made me want to pick up certain books for a while now, so I figured this was the perfect opportunity. I wasn’t able to find all of them since unless it involves yelling at Sana, I don’t always tag things properly. Just know that I’m in perpetual awe of the book edits I see crossing my dash on a daily basis and of the artistic skills and general stamina of their creators (because I know there’s a lot of time that goes into making them in the first place) and I’m jealous of everyone who has this particular talent. General disclaimer: slight spoilers in the edits for the books ahead but not in this actual post. Also, the “by” in every heading will lead you to the Goodreads page. Oh, and it’s going to sound like I personally know all the people whose edits I’m linking (not that I wouldn’t like to) rather than the more accurate scenario, which is me drooling over their edits and talent from afar, but it felt weird and rude using their URLs instead of their actual names, so. read more… A Life Update November 3, 2016 ● BY Ellis ● TAGS: Me!, Personal ● 4 comments The title is a little dramatic but it was such a struggle finding something short and fitting for everything I’m going to mention here, so I blatantly copied Judith’s idea. (Btw, also check out her Six of Crows wallpaper and sort-of-review because as always it’s miles better than anything I could ever do.) I will explain somewhere in this jumble of words but hi hello welcome to my current life. So, hi! It’s been an embarrassingly long time since I last posted and I keep accidentally disappearing from the internet for sizeable stretches of time. Let’s say 60% of that is because of who I am as a person, but it’s also been a high-pressure, lowish-energy, terrible-time-management kind of year. (Case in point: this post was supposed to go up about a month ago, before I left for Munich. More about that in a minute.) I don’t know where I’m currently at in terms of reviewing and book-related posts. I was going to do a Bookish Bingo round-up post in which I quickly reviewed all the books I read for the Summer 2016 prompts, but who knows when that’s going to be posted. (Not me, that’s for sure.) But for the people who are still here for the actual bookish stuff, here are seven of my (relatively) recent favourite reads: The Vanishing Throne by Elizabeth May, Three Dark Crowns by Kendare Blake, Far From You by Tess Sharpe, Serpentine by Cindy Pon, The Lost Girl by Sangu Mandanna, The Upside of Unrequited by Becky Albertalli and Hate Is Such a Strong Word by Sarah Ayoub. There are more, of course, but we all know this post is already going to be long enough. read more… Wallpaper Wednesday: Six of Crows September 18, 2016 ● BY Judith ● TAGS: Wallpaper Wednesday ● 1 comment Hi! Remember me? I’m still alive. Ish. I know it’s not Wednesday, and I’m definitely not getting back into blogging anytime soon, but here’s a wallpaper I found on my laptop. I made this after meeting Leigh Bardugo in Rotterdam last year with Ellis (which was the best) and I actually quite like it, so I decided to share it with you. And even though I haven’t even touched a book in at least six months, I am excited to see where this series will take us. Nina Zenik for queen. 1280×720 | 1366×768 | 1440×900 | 1680×1050 | 1920×1200 | 2560×1400 iPhone 4 (3.5 inch) | iPhone 5/6 (4 inch) | Samsung Galaxy (4 inch) | Samsung A5 (5 inch) Also, since I apparently never posted my full review of the book, here are some of my favorite quotes: Kaz leaned back. “What’s the easiest way to steal a man’s wallet?” “Knife to the throat?” asked Inej. “Gun to the back?” said Jesper. “Poison in his cup?” suggested Nina. “You’re all horrible,” said Matthias. “It’s not natural for women to fight.” “It’s not natural for someone to be as stupid as he is tall, and yet there you stand.” “Nina is everything you say. It’s too much.” “Mmm,” Inej murmured, taking a sip from her mug. “Maybe you’re just not enough.” “I’d rather face a thousand honest men with swords than one of those deceitful witches with unnatural powers.” And when you arrive with your repeating rifles and your tanks, when you set upon children and helpless villages, should we not use the weapons we possess? Nina bit down hard on her inner cheek. “I’m not sure if it was the right thing to do. I’ll become one more Grisha horror story for them to tell their children.” “Behave or Nina Zenik will get you?” Nina considered. “Well, I do like the sound of that.” The Get to Know Me Uncomfortably Well Tag May 30, 2016 ● BY Ellis ● TAGS: Book Tag ● 5 comments when will my Judith return from war (actually, she has!) Hi! I took an impromptu break because school was being so needy that I didn’t even have time to use blogging as an outlet, but for those who missed me: it is time to share some random facts about myself again. And you have my good friend Morgan to thank for this. We bonded over our love for everything is about me always livejournal-y type of posts and then she came across this list of 100 random questions on Tumblr, so of course we had to do it. We thought it would be fun if we picked a few for each other. You can find the full list of prompts here. I’m going to answer about 30 of them, but I’ll be using the original numbering. So, you know, if you want to know what accents I can do or when my YA life truly began, read on. 1. What is your middle name? I actually have two. I was raised catholic and the tradition here is that you get your godparents’ names as your middle names when you’re baptised. They also modify the names based on the child’s assigned gender. So mine are Henrika (the female version of my grandpa/godfather’s name Rik, which is short for Hendrik) and Lutgart (my grandma/godmother’s name). In that order. Ellis Henrika Lutgart. Feel free to send me voice messages of you trying to pronounce that. 4. What is your zodiac sign? ? Geminiiiiii ? the most hated of them all ? Shout-out to my Pisces people, who are the most ridiculed sign in Tumblr zodiac posts. (Stop laughing, one of them once listed me as a Hell Queen made of demon’s trickery and I’ve been a true believer ever since. An occasionally frustrated and/or insulted one, but a believer nonetheless.) 5. What is your favourite colour? A chorus of voices from all around the cosmos: PURPLE. Well, you’re not wrong but I’m also very partial to green, blue, and yellow. And pretty much any bright colour that isn’t orange. read more… Review: Summer Skin May 26, 2016 ● BY Ellis ● TAGS: Review, Rating: 4 ● 2 comments Title: Summer ... Similar Website
